Chapter 10: Hear. Speak. Do.

Okay this is a good one. Here's Steven's concept in a nut shell:

*Hearing the word initiates faith
*Speaking the word activates faith
*Doing the word demonstrates faith

What is the common denominator here: the Word of God. It is the foundation for everything we do as Christians.

Read this verse from 2 Timothy about the scripture:

"All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for
teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
so that the man (or woman) of God may be thoroughly
equipped for every good work."  2Tim :16-17

In other words, everything we need, for everything we're called to do can be found in scripture. I don't mean details like how to use a computer. What I mean is how to run a business ethically, how to treat people in your family or the work place, how to approach God in prayer, how to be saved...this list can go on and on.

My favorite section of this chapter is about speaking the word. There is so much power in that, but we miss it every day. How different would our lives be if learned to claim God's promises through scripture every day and SPOKE THEM OUT LOUD! Audacious!  Outrageous!

I am not espousing a "name it and claim it" gospel. I don't think that's scriptural, unless what you're claiming comes from scripture or the leading of God in your heart. We all have to be very careful here.

Here are a few of the "12 Audacious Faith Confessions" from Steven's chapter 10 (p. 114-115), complete with scripture references:

#1  I am fully forgiven and free from all shame and condemnation.
        Romans 8:1-2, Ephesians 1:7-8, 1 John 1:9

Can you think of a better place to start?  I can't!  Here's another one:

#3  I have no fear or anxiety; I trust in the Lord with all my heart.   Proverbs 3:5-6, Philippians 4:6-7, 1 Peter 5:7

And one more:

#11 I have the wisdom of the Lord concerning every decision I make. 2 Chronicles 1:7-12, Proverbs 2:6, Ecclesiastes 2:26; James 1:5

Are you intrigued? Do you see why Steven calls them "audacious faith confessions?

There are 9 more just as bold as these three. It's worth the price of the book for this chapter alone.

Mine for today at work is:  Proverbs 3:6 "In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight." I need straight paths today!

It's your turn: What scripture do you need to speak today in prayer for the situations you are facing? Do it. Just do it. Remember it is not about how YOU feel. It is about who GOD is and what he has promised us. Post a comment to share your audacious faith confession.

The book is: SUN STAND STILL: What happens when you dare to ask God for the impossible, by Steven Furtick.
